how educational institutions can support us

The need for raising social consciousness and fostering responsibility is gaining importance in most schools and colleges catering to the affluent in Mumbai.

We believe that promoting literacy is a worthy and fitting cause for them to adopt. We encourage them to support us by helping them design various social service programs.

With a deeper involvement, the student community can contribute beyond limited Community Action & Service (CAS) hours, but can imbibe it for life.  We also facilitate PTAs involvement in the social service programs for schools

SCHOOLS CAN ENGAGE WITH AXF IN TWO PRIMARY WAYS:

    1. Limited engagement or weekly CAS/SUPW activities

This Limited Engagement Plan is designed for schools that need to complete CAS hours. Their students can contribute to AXF through weekend volunteering at our centres or by taking our children to school for pre-planned activities supervised by teachers.

Students from Jamnabai Narsee School, Cathedral & John Connon School, Avabai Petit School, Bombay Scottish School, NMIMS, National College and St. Xaviers have worked with us for their CAS/SUPW activities.

    2. CSR/CAS activities: Sustained High-impact Program

AXF provides affluent schools an opportunity to start a learning centre at school premises under the schools banner. This gives the schools an opportunity to deliver life changing impact through sustained engagement with select underprivileged children over years.

As a part of this program, the teacher body can be involved as trainers and coordinators of the program, parent body can support as volunteers and donors. The school’s student body engages with the underprivileged students through a defined planned activity and complete their CAS hours.

    SCHOOLS CURRENTLY SUPPORTING AXF

Billabong International School, Malad started an AXF centre in August 2015. The school hosts a daily class catering to 80 slum children. Classes are managed by PTA members supported by Billabong High School students who put in social service hours.

Ecole Mondiale World School started working with AXF Juhu centre in 2015. They started an AXF centre in the school premises in 2017, where student volunteers are supervised by teachers. The Gateway School of Mumbai also adopted the AXF program, managed by students of the school.

BENEFITS OF SOCIAL SERVICE TO SCHOOLS

Schools that have participated in the program have shared a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment experienced by their children. Students from affluent schools benefit through a new experience of teaching peers from a less privileged background which results in two way learning and sensitization of students. The students enhance their personal and interpersonal development; learn critical skills of planning, negotiating and team building with groups that they may otherwise not be exposed to.

This is by virtue of contributing to a social cause where the result for the effort put in by students is visible year after year. Additionally, a sense of ownership for the project and a growing connection with the same children every year helps turn their students into well-rounded human beings. In the bigger picture, this program gives an insight into realities that India is grappling with and an opportunity to bridge gaps early on in life.
