Our  Goals

Our flagship project, the Free Learning Centre Program, is geared to enable a better future, where children learn to make responsible choices. It is designed to create opportunities for educated adults to teach and mentor slum dwelling first-generation learners in their neighborhoods.

Over the next 5 years, we aim to train over 2000 volunteers who will reach out to 10,000 children through daily lessons year on year. This will enable volunteering to become a lifestyle choice for an urban society and begin a social movement that will encompass millions.

Students enroll in the programs from Grade 2 and are tutored, mentored and guided until Grade 12. In 2018-19 a youth engagement program was piloted which provides academic, vocational guidance as well as soft skills and career readiness workshops, this program will be adopted across more centres in the coming years.

How AXF classes are conducted

At AXF Centres, classes are offered for an hour every day, to 2200 children in 20 centres across Mumbai. Children from Grade 2 to Grade 6 are admitted and are part of the program until they pass out of Grade 12. The academic year spans from June to April every year, after which we break for summer.

We reopen in mid-June when the children are re-registered, re-assessed, and re-grouped. Most of our children come back year after year.

Activities at AXF free learning centre

English, Maths and Life-skills are the core subjects covered at our centres. Apart from academics, every centre conducts value based sessions to improve self-esteem and self-confidence. Talent development and non-formal education programs are held regularly, along with counseling sessions, with life coping skills and livelihood training for teenagers. Lifestyle and educational trips are conducted to enhance the exposure of children.

A daily nutritional supplement is supplied in the form of fruits or snacks.

Regular health check-ups such as dental, eye, and so on, are conducted.
