I have worked as a Chartered Accountant with major firms, in India and abroad. But I always sought more balance to my accounts. I sought a greater purpose to live for – beyond being a mother, wife, daughter or professional.
Unconditional love that can’t be accounted for!
Moving back to India, after being abroad for 13 years, and joining AXF has helped me find my calling in life.
I found this purpose when I found Angel Xpress foundation. Now I have found my calling and feel blessed to be a part of the lives of almost 180 underprivileged children and 30 volunteers.
They are my family now and I can’t imagine my life without them. The unconditional love I receive from them is much more than the time I give them, which is every day and even most weekends.
I too have a dream…
From being the Juhu centre head for five years to becoming a mentor for new centres like Versova and Amboli, made me come closer to my dream. I dream of having an AXF centre in every park in Mumbai.
That is how I see my future with AXF: Helping more and more children benefit from our unique mentorship program and getting more local communities involved in making a difference in the lives of these children.
The impact of AXF is real
The impact of the work we are doing never truly hit me until, during one of the parent-teacher meetings, parents told us about the changes they had seen in their kids and how they wanted their siblings also to come to AXF too.
Once, an elderly gentleman came to our centre with his daughter, visiting from Singapore. They stood and watched us for some time. Then he came up to me and said ‘There are a number of ways we can contribute, like donating money and goods, but what you are doing is amazing, I salute you!’ He bowed down with folded hands and had tears in his eyes! I thanked him while fighting back my own tears!
Debika Mukhija Ajmani started as a Maths volunteer with AXF and is now the centre head of Juhu. She now plays a critical role in the core management team by contributing across multiple functions.
