Even as a little girl, Kishori Pai wanted to be a teacher. Back home in Mangalore, her maternal grandfather was a very famous academician. He inspired her to follow his footsteps and help society through education.

However, marriage at an early age made her leave these dreams behind. She became a full-time homemaker, a devoted wife, and a doting mother. Her life was about a very happy marriage and a happy family.

How I discovered AXF’s teaching opportunities

My husband’s demise left me heartbroken, lonely and clueless as to how to go on without him. It was during this period of contemplation and mourning that I decided to go out and make a difference.

It just so happened that during a stroll along the Bandstand promenade, I bumped into some AXF volunteers who introduced me to their beautiful cause.

I jumped at the opportunity of being a part of AXF.

The ability to help these children is a great privilege

These “underprivileged” children deserve a good education and a fighting chance to make something of themselves. I feel privileged to have the opportunity to serve these wonderful kids.

The love and respect showered on me by them give me immense pleasure and peace of mind. It makes me feel happy and satisfied, knowing that I am doing something for the society and thus indirectly serving God.

I have now completed three years with AXF. It has been a dream come true for me.

Kishori Pai is a 69-year-young Math and English teacher. She volunteers at the AXF Bandstand centre. She inspires us with her loving nature, indestructible spirit, punctuality, and composure.
