As a teenager, I had a strong interest in teaching – more so young children. I always felt my worries taking flight when I was with children. They made me smile when I would have no reason to otherwise.
How I learnt the needs of lesser privileged children around me
When I lost my father to cancer 5 years ago, my world turned upside down. I am a single child and my parents have pampered me to bits.
Facing the loss of my father, I realised that I had it all but hardly valued it. At this juncture, my mother showed me a world of children just like me. But they were far less fortunate – deprived of the basic right to education. My mother expressed faith in me, knowing that I had the ability to change these children’s lives.
Lighting lamps for others also lit up my world
Two years ago, still living with a cloud of depression on my head, I told myself that I had to move ahead. I decided to join Angel Xpress Foundation to turn negativity into a positive change.
Now, I am a volunteer at the Andheri East centre. I teach Math on Tuesdays and Thursdays and Art on Sundays. This is my vibrant palette of life and I love each moment I spend here.
The children are so warm and loving. Their greetings make me smile brightly. At the end of each class, I look forward to the next one. One can only feel this way for one’s family. And the Angel Xpress Foundation children truly are family for me.
